Last weekend, the HSA Surf Series event #3 was held at the historic Queen's surf break in Waikiki. This stop on the HSA Surf Series is also co-sponsored by Honolulu's sister city in Japan, Chigasaki. Although the waves don't always cooperate, this is always a fun and energizing stop for HSA competitors.
The conditions on Saturday were clean, with a dwindling south swell providing occasional chest high sets. Our younger team rider, Kamanahanaunaokuuiwi (Dakota Kelly), took to the water for his division (Junior Men Shortboard 16-17), but did not advance through his heat which had very few waves.
Sunday's conditions were absolutely dismal, with a rising tide and just remnants of a fading swell. Some heats only saw a few waves scored. However, Pancho and Kamanahanaunaokuuiwi managed to place 1st and 2nd respectively in the Open Men's Shortboard (All ages) division, in what ended up being a very tricky heat.
Although the conditions were small, it is always a blast hanging around in Waikiki with the DHS team riders. The next HSA event is just a few weeks away, we can't wait!
